Our hybrid project gathers a contemporary art space, and a fully equipped photo & multimedia studio for future residents. Date Agency positions itself as a production and consulting agency locally.

We are promoting both local and international artists, however, we make a point to represent Moroccan/African artists in every exhibition we produce. This continent, and specifically Morocco, is becoming more familiar with and engaged in the contemporary art scene. We take the gamble to bet on the new scene because they understand the tools and the language of the globalized market. Secondly, artists born in the 80s and 90s have an intrinsic “globalist” culture with which they no longer limit the resonance of their aesthetic discourse on the national ground level alone.

Mohcine Rahaoui - Sebastio Castelo Lopez - duo show

Mouhcine Rahaoui est un artiste plasticien né en 1990 à Jerrada. Mouhcine est titulaire d’une licence en biologie et d’un diplôme des beaux arts de Tetouan obtenu en 2017. Par le biais de constats métaphoriques et autobiographiques, l’artiste nous dépeint les souffrances psychologiques liées au travail dans les mines de charbon.
Plus généralement, l’artiste questionne les conditions indignes et peu sures dans lesquelles sont forcées de travailler une large partie de la classe ouvrière marocaine.

Sebastiao Castelo Lopes est un artiste plasticien né à Lisbon, en 1994. Diplômé des beaux arts de Lisbon et du Wimbeldon College of Art où il obtient un master en dessin.
La série The Tools présentée à Dasthe est accompagnée d’un extrait de la lettre à un jeune poète de Rilke. S’il est d’abord question pour l’artiste d’adapter la matière à l’espace, il développe le processus inverse pour cette série.

L’intérêt de ce parallèle est d’apprehender la valeur symbolique d’un objet tant par son contenu émotionnel, que philosophique, ou formel. En 1994, déjà, Bart de Baere montait l’exposition “This is the show and the Show is many things” au Musée d’art contemporain de Ghent en Belgique. Treize artistes, dont Jason Rhoades and Anne Decock proposaient par le biais de leurs installations des “mises en situation”, variables selon l’interaction, ou non interaction, du visiteur avec les pieces. La proposition de de Baere s’articulait autour de la notion d’esthétique relationnelle ; la participation du public (et ici, même des artistes) dans l’élaboration et la vie des pièces dans l’enceinte du musée.

Dans le double solo show de ce soir, Sebastiao Castelo Lopes et Mouhcine Rahaoui proposent deux simulations distinctes. Une, celle de Mouhcine, à caractère autobiographique et dont l’objet et les objets transposent une lourde charge émotionnelle et socio-culturelle. L’installation de Sebastiao Castelo Lopes en revanche, transcende le signifié et propose de faire de l’objet un artifact mystifié.

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY - NOV 2017

Dasthe Art Space & Agency is pleased to announce our upcoming international group exhibition, featuring artists from Sweden, Italy, Morocco, France & the U.K., all in the spirit of Fashion Imagery, which will run from November 2nd-30th, 2017. Photography work by Daniel Bellqvist, William Frank, Brent Goldsmith, Deborah Benzaquen & Yasmine Bennis along with video work by Damien Vignaux will be on display to showcase fashion in a unique and contemporary manner.

With varying visions, aesthetics and philosophies, these six artists will come together to reveal the breadth of fashion imagery and the infinite approaches one may take in its viewing. A play between darkness, light & color, along with theatrics & narratives, femininity & glamour are all but some of the themes experimented with by our artists in this show. This exhibition will be an attempt to showcase the ever undefinable realm of fashion imagery and photography and a marking of its entrance into the world of contemporary art.

Our Fashion Imagery show will run from November 2nd- 30th, at Dasthe Art Space & Agency in Casablanca, Morocco. We will have an opening event on November 2nd @ 19h; Dasthe Art Space & Agency. 58 Rue el Mortada, Casablanca, Grand Casablanca, 20250, Morocco.

The gallery operates Monday-Friday from 10:00-18:00.

Meet our Artist!

Khalil Minka is one of our immensely talented featured artists, exhibiting magnificent wool tapestries as a part of our Designer L’Art Contemporain Sustainable Exhibition at Dasthe Art Space & Agency, which will run until October 30th, 2017. Khalil will also be participating in a round table discussion here at Dasthe on October 25th, from 14:00–17:0h, as part of Casablanca Design Week, along with Zahra Sebti & Merouane Oussama Zouaoui.
